Institute for Health Services Effectiveness (IHSE)

IHSE is a research institute within Aston Business School that studies how healthcare can best be delivered by effective workforce organisation and management of staff, and promotes its findings to the wider healthcare community.

Current major projects include the development and implementation of the NHS National Staff Survey in England, an evaluation of culture change in the NHS following Lord Darzi’s High Quality Care for All review, and a three-year study of multi-professional team working in mental health care.

IHSE has developed strong links with many organisations associated with healthcare delivery in the UK, including the Department of Health, Care Quality Commission, NHS Employers, and Health Foundation, as well as many NHS Trusts. In addition we work closely with several other academic institutions both at home and abroad.

Members of IHSE have a strong publication record, including many papers either specific to healthcare, or based on research conducted in healthcare settings. A list of all these papers can be found here, and further information about the academic interests of IHSE members can be found here.
