SEMINAR 3- Theme: Developing leaders for innovation and change.

TUESDAY 11TH JUNE, 9.30- 4.30, LANCASTER UNIVERSITY.

Key note speakers: Pawan Budhwar (Leadership and innovation: insights from MSBs in India) & John Bessant, Exeter University (Managing innovation).

Building new leadership and management talents has been defined as a particular challenge for MSBs (CBI, 2011). The purpose of this seminar is to assess what literature and practice suggest to be the defining characteristics of leaders within MSBs.  Amongst the questions to be explored is the role of leaders in fostering ‘developmental readiness’ across the organization, and concrete steps that leaders might take for fostering knowledge creation and dissemination such that day-to-day innovation is part of organizational functioning (Hannah & Lester, 2009). Implications for leadership development will be discussed and we expect debate to centre on best practice examples drawn from high-performing MSBs
