The Online MBA allows you to fit your MBA studies around other work and life commitments. All elements of the programme can be completed in your free time, using virtual classroom materials. Coursework is submitted online and often exams can be taken in the student’s home country.

Taking the Online MBA at Aston does not mean that you are on your own. You will follow a carefully structured series of modules, with a comprehensive support network and access to a range of virtual classroom materials and a virtual MBA Lounge, all available online.

Reinforce your learning with annnual residential workshops

You will also have the opportunity to participate in two residential workshops, in July of each year, enabling you to build relationships with the community of academic staff and fellow students from around the world with whom you have been working remotely throughout the year. The residential takes place at Aston in the first year, and one of our partner institutions in the second.

Round-the-clock facilities for all the help you’ll need

The My Aston Portal (MAP) provides you with an online, interactive learning platform that connects you to Aston from wherever you are in the world. MAP allows online group work, so you can benefit from shared knowledge in a global classroom. All administrative documents can be accessed online and you can receive and submit all coursework electronically.

Programme details

  • The Aston Online MBA can be completed within 27 months
  • Most students take two modules per term for six terms (3 terms per year)
  • Followed by a six month business project that can be completed within your current employment
  • You will receive the full Aston MBA Award, not an online version.

Study mode

  • You can study at a time convenient to you, worldwide
  • Most of the materials you will need to study will be distributed via our virtual learning environment and will include multimedia lectures, webinars, and discussion forums
  • We receive coursework electronically and where possible arrange examinations in your country of study.

With over 20 years of supporting MBA students learning off-campus we understand how important this support is for Online students. We are committed to provide you with the individual support that you might need through email, phone and our online Virtual Learning Environment.

Residential

All Online MBA students are invited to attend a one-week residential session in July of each year. Students attend a residential at Aston in their first year, and with a partner institution in their second year. 

This gives you the opportunity to meet academic staff and your peers with whom you have been working remotely throughout the year.

The week’s activities are designed to continue the personal and professional development you will have begun during your online studies.

The week also gives you the opportunity to strengthen the networks that you have been virtually developing with your fellow students and the staff around the world.

During the Aston Residential you will participate in a two day Business Simulation exercise and undertake a three day personal development course as well as attending revision sessions for the modules that you have completed and finally you will sit your exams on the completed modules.

The second residential allows you to focus on specialist topics, such as Corporate Social Responsibility, or deepen your knowledge of doing business in particular markets.

Induction - Two per year

This process is conducted entirely online prior to the start of your course, providing you with a solid foundation for your studies.

As part of the induction process the various components of your communications system are tested to ensure that all parts are functioning correctly. 

There is also an introductory case study problem for you to solve which leads to a virtual, live, interactive practice tutorial during which you will present your analysis, followed by your conclusion and recommendations.

Aston Online MBA fees - October 2013 and January 2014 intake

  • Students from EU countries (including the UK): £18,000
  • Students from non-EU countries: £18,000 
     

Payment of tuition fees

You can pay your fees in full at the beginning of the programme, or choose to pay in six equal instalments over six terms/two years. No further fees are charged if your programme takes longer than two years to complete.Please note your fees will vary depending on which scholarships or bursaries you have been awarded.

MBA deposit payment

When you accept your place onto the Aston MBA you will be required to pay a £500 deposit. This sum will be deducted from your total tuition fee amount upon enrolment at the university

Bursaries and scholarships

We offer funding support to suitable candidates through a range of bursaries and
scholarships. These can be applied for during application, or when an offer for a place has been made by us and accepted by you.

Entry requirements:
For direct enrolment onto the Aston Online MBA programme, you will need one of the following:

  • A good UK honours degree, or
  • An equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University, or
  • A degree-level professional qualification.

Plus

  • At least three years’ relevant post-graduation work experience by the time you start your programme
  • An official academic transcript of your grades (in English) 
  • Two references – preferably one from an academic referee, the other from your current or previous employer (Two professional references may be accepted from applicants with substantial work experience).
English Language Requirements 2013/14

Applicants whose primary language is not English, or whose previous education was conducted in another language, must submit evidence of satisfactory completion of a standardised English test. The minimum acceptable test scores are: TOEFL 105 with a minimum of 22 in any section (Internet-based exam); or IELTS with a 7 overall band score, and no less than 6 in any section.

Notes
Admission outside of these guidelines is possible for exceptional students. If you have extensive work experience but no graduate qualifications, you may be enrolled as a Diploma student and attend all the same sessions as Online MBA students. If your first set of results is acceptable, you may transfer and continue as an Online MBA student at no extra cost.
