Frequently Asked Questions about applying for the Aston MBA

What is the deadline for applications?

The deadline for the full-time MBA is usually end of July. For the part-time and distance-learning routes, the application procedure is ongoing throughout the year.

Can I send my application form without references?

Yes, but we cannot make a decision without your references, therefore please send them to us as soon as you can.

Can I send copies of my degree/diploma certificates and transcripts with my application instead of the originals?

Yes, but you will be required to show original copies of all degree/diploma certificates and transcripts when you join Aston Business School. If you have studied outside of the UK, transcripts must be translated into English and be certified copies.

Can I send copies of my TOEFL/IELTS certificates with my application instead of the originals?

You should submit original copies of your TOEFL/IELTS with your application. Scores for both these qualifications are valid for two years from the date of the exam. If you have a TOEFL/IELTS that is older than two years it will not be valid and you will need to retake it again.

How many references are required?

We require two references for all candidates. These can either be supplied on the downloadable Reference Form or on letterhead directly from your referee. At least one reference should be from an academic referee, the other from your current or previous employer. If you are not able to provide an academic reference, then we may accept two professional references. If you need advice on this matter please contact the MBA Office.

I have been told I have a conditional offer – what does this mean?

This means that you have been offered a place at the Business School, subject to some conditions e.g. obtaining your degree or meeting our English language requirements. Once you have confirmed you have met these conditions, the Business School will change its offer to unconditional.

How long will you hold my offer for?

We will only hold your offer until the date specified in your offer letter (this is usually six weeks). A deposit of £1,000 is payable on accepting your offer – this amount will be deducted from the total tuition fees.

What happens to my deposit if I do not meet the conditions?

If you attempt to meet the conditions stated in your offer letter, but do not meet them, Aston Business School will refund your deposit minus a £100 administrative fee. If you make no attempt to meet the conditions, your deposit is not refundable.

How long does it take to make a decision on my application?

It usually takes two weeks. If you have not heard from us after two weeks, you can contact the MBA Office to find out the status of your application. Please remember to state your full name, date of birth and application number (if known).
