“I am looking forward to moving to Aston,” said Professor Baines. He added: “I have a strong association with the region and its history, and I’m keen to make a contribution and impact on industry.”
Professor Baines has experience that covers a wide range of disciplines including manufacturing operations strategy, industrial engineering, and technology management. His career started with technician apprenticeship training and has progressed through a variety of industrial and academic positions, including that of Visiting Scholar within the Centre for Technology, Policy and Industrial Development at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds a variety of positions, including membership of EPSRC College of Peers, a Fellow of both the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Institution of Engineers and Technologists, and is a Chartered Engineer.
At Cranfield, Professor Baines led the Product-Service Systems theme of the Cranfield EPSRC / IMRC; a £5 million initiative of almost 40 researchers across the Schools of Science, Engineering and Management. Professor Baines has a consistent track record of raising both public and private sector funds for his research, working close to industry and winning projects with a combined value in excess of several million pounds.
