A chartered psychologist from
Aston Business School gives his perspective on the Comprehensive Spending
Review, which was announced a week ago today.
Dr Patrick Tissington,
Associate Dean Business Partnerships, gives his expert opinion on the impact of the Spending
Review on the West Midlands region and explains why our perceptions and fear of
change can cause, often unnecessarily, stress and panic.
Dr Tissington, a specialist
in the study of emergency decision-making and crisis management, has appeared
in the national press, including BBC Radio Four, has over 10 years experience
of working with the emergency services and is a Visiting Fellow and the UK Fire
Service College where he has trained fire officers at all levels in incident
command and leadership.
In his interview he gives an
optimistic approach to the Spending Review and explains how fine vision and
judgement of a good leader can bring hope and positivity to the workforce,
regardless of extent and impact of funding cuts in any organisation, private or
public.
The Spending Review announcement
(October 20) outlines the reduction in spending for each Government department.
However, the impact on specific organisations and services won’t be known until
the coming weeks and months ahead.
