The Marketing Group at Aston Business School has further strengthened its team with the appointment of three new staff members.
The three new senior academics are: Professor Peter Leeflang, Professor Heiner Evanschitzky and Professor Greg Marshall.
Professor Peter Leeflang
Peter is an award-winning Professor in Marketing and Market Research based at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He has published well over 100 research articles at the highest level and his contribution to the development of the Marketing domain has been cited as instrumental. His work has been published in prominent journals including The International Journal of Research in Marketing, Applied Economics, The Journal of Marketing Research, The Journal of Marketing, The Journal of Econometrics and Management Science. In addition, he has authored and co-authored several books including Mathematical Models in Marketing (Stenfert Kroese, Leiden, 1974); Building Implementable Marketing Models (Martinus Nijhoff, The Hague/Boston, 1987) and Building Models for Marketing Decisions, 2000).
Recently Peter was the recipient of the Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award from the European Marketing Academy (EMAC), a professional body of which Peter is a member. This award recognises creativity and innovative strength and the supply of services to the marketing community and the wider society. In 1978-9 he was president of EMAC and Vice President for nine years until 1990.
Peter studied Econometrics in Rotterdam, achieving both his MA and his PhD in the early Seventies from the Netherland School of Economics. In 1990 and 2003 he was a Visiting Professor of Marketing at the Anderson Graduate School of Management, part of University of California at Los Angeles. He has also taught PhD courses in Helsinki, Alicante, St Gallen, Vienna, Innsbruck and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universitat at Frankfurt am Main (2004 until now). He also holds the BAT-chair in Marketing at LUISS, Guido Carli at Rome (2009-2012).
From 1997 to 2001 Peter was the Dean of the Economics faculty and vice-Vice Chancellor of the University of Groningen. He has been a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1999 and is Vice President of the European Institute of Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) in Brussels.
Professor Heiner Evanschitzky
Heiner is currently Professor of Marketing at Strathclyde University. In 2007, when he took up this role at the age of 35, he was among the youngest professors of marketing in the country. Previously he worked as Assistant and Associate Professor at the Marketing Centre at Muenster University in Germany. He was also a visiting faculty at Florida Atlantic University in the USA and Curtin University of Technology in Australia.
Over the years he has had around 100 articles published in specialist journals, notably in the field’s leading Journal of Marketing and Journal of Retailing. In 2007, his research on sales management won the prestigious ‘James M. Comer Award’ for Best Contribution to Selling and Sales Management Theory/Methodology.
Heiner sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Business Research and Industrial Marketing Management and is an editor of the book series ‘Applied Marketing Science’. In the past he has chaired a number of high-profile symposiums including the 12th Academy of Marketing Science World Marketing Congress and the ANZMAC Doctoral Colloquium. In 2008, he was the regional liaison Chair for the Academy of Marketing Science Cultural Perspectives in Marketing Conference and earlier this year, he organised and chaired a workshop during the leading Frontiers in Services Conference on the topical theme of Solution Selling and Innovation.
Heiner’s research interests are primarily in Services Marketing and services Management where he focuses on issues around the service profit chain concept. These include the areas of customer (value) management, research on satisfaction and loyalty, sales management, retail marketing, relationship marketing and business networks.
He is a sport enthusiast and particularly enjoys skiing, surfing, hiking and badminton. In addition, he is a collector, and an occasional drinker, of fine wines. He is married to Dorothee and the couple, who currently live in Glasgow but will soon to relocating to the Midlands, have a ten-month-old son Ben.
Professor Greg Marshall
Greg W Marshall is the Charles Harwood Professor of Marketing and Strategy in the Crummer Graduate Business School at Rollins College in Florida, where he also served for three years as the Vice President for Strategic Marketing. Greg has a remarkable reputation in the marketing community, internationally, and has published over 40 refereed journal articles at the very highest level. In addition, he has authored and co-authored numerous books.
Greg's research is focused mainly on these themes: sales force selection, performance and evaluation; decision-making by marketing managers; and intra-organisational relationships.
Award-winning Greg is Editor of the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, and from 2002-05 was Editor of the Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management. He also serves on the editorial review boards of the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Industrial Marketing Management, and Journal of Business Research. With over 13 years’ managerial experience in the marketing industry prior to going back to school for his PhD, Greg has previously worked for a range of companies including Warner Lambert, Mennen, and Target Corporation. He also has considerable experience as a consultant and trainer for a variety of organisations.
Sharing his elation on his new appointment, Greg said: “The Marketing Group at Aston Business School is becoming more and more recognised as one of the top in the UK and is especially gaining a strong reputation as a leader in business-to-business and managerial marketing issues. This focus is a great fit for my own research and teaching focus, thus I’m very excited about the potential things we can do together that will continue to raise the Group’s reputation to even higher levels not just in the UK but globally.”
Greg, who has a PhD from Oklahoma State University has been heavily involved in teaching MBA and Executive MBA programmes. He has been the recipient of a number of awards in recognition of his exemplar teaching including the ‘Outstanding Marketing Teacher’ Award from the Academy of Marketing Science and the Chandler-Frates Teaching Award at OSU. In 2005 he received the Cornell Distinguished Faculty Award in the Crummer Graduate Business School at Rollins College, which has the top-ranked MBA program in Florida.
Greg is a Distinguished Fellow and President of the Academy of Marketing Science. He is past President of the American Marketing Association Academic Division and also led its Strategic Planning Group, is a Fellow and past President of the Society for Marketing Advances, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Direct Selling Education Foundation. Greg is married to Patti and the couple, who live in Winter Park, Florida, have a teenage son, Justin. Greg is an enthusiast of outdoor activities and enjoys, in particular, biking. In addition, the couple enjoy travelling and dining at new restaurants.
