On Wednesday 11 February, Aston Business School hosted an event for MBA
alumni and students in collaboration with AMBA, the Association of
MBAs, and SCIP UK Competitive Intelligence. Kevan Williams, Director of
AIM Strategic Management Ltd, gave a presentation, “7 Steps to
Effective Competitive Intelligence”.
Kevan
Williams explained how competitive intelligence differs from business
intelligence and knowledge management, and why ignoring it hurts the
bottom line. The presentation provided a practical roadmap for turning
raw information into intelligence: what it is, why you should do it,
finding information, organising it, storing and updating it, sharing it
and applying it.
Debate and discussion followed the
informative and interesting presentation, which was well received by
delegates. Given the combined involvement of alumni, students and
professional organisations, it was also an enjoyable and effective
networking event.
Graeme Dixon, the AMBA Regional Chair for the Midlands, commented:
“40
senior business leaders learned a lot this evening. The world of
Competitive Intelligence is going to impact on the UK over the next 5
years. It is not all just clever software; it is also about building
good trust networks of contacts and using them with integrity. This
presentation was one of the best talks on the subject I have heard.”
