Aston Business school has a
larger volume of international and world leading research academics
than either Oxford, Cambridge or Imperial College London according to
the results of the RAE – the Research Assessment Exercise which has
examined the quality of research undertaken at universities across the
UK.
The RAE is probably the most eagerly anticipated national
measure of research quality. It looked at research undertaken since
2001 and the results will be used to apportion almost £6bn of future
research and innovation funding.
Aston Business School submitted 50% more research this time than the last RAE and moved up to overall 9th place nationally.

results reflect the ‘world leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’
research carried out by the many leading thinkers among our staff.
“Their research directly influences policy and practice in government and in business in the UK and around the world.

school is clearly fulfilling its mission of advancing understanding of
what makes organizations effective while ensuring that those who work
within them or are served by them can also fulfil their potential.

attract students from all over the world who benefit from the latest
understanding and thinking offered by our research, so that they can go
on to provide wise and principled leadership in their organizations and
societies in the future.”
Research income for Aston Business
School during the RAE assessment period exceeded £4m compared to just
over £2m in the previous assessment period when the school was ranked
10th in the UK.
Nationally the results demonstrate that 54% of
the research conducted by 52,400 staff submitted by 159 universities
and colleges is either ‘world-leading’ (17 per cent in the highest
grade) - or ‘internationally excellent’ (37 per cent in the second
highest grade).
John Denham, Secretary of State for Innovation,
Universities and Skills, said: ‘The latest RAE reinforces the UK’s
position as a world leader in research and I congratulate our
universities and colleges for achieving such outstanding results.
‘The
fact that over 50 per cent of research is either ‘world-leading or
‘internationally excellent’ further confirms that the UK continues to
punch above its weight in this crucial field.
