India and China: Outward Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) from Emerging Powerhouses

On Tuesday 10 May, the fifth seminar in the Aston India series took place at Aston University. Entitled India and China: Outward Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) from Emerging Powerhouses, the event was attended by over 50 business leaders from across the region. 

The event was sponsored by BDO, the world's fifth largest accountancy firm and also saw the book launch of Doing Business in India, authored by Professor Pawan Budhwar and Arup Varma. The book was officially unveiled by India’s highest-ranking diplomat in the Midlands, Consul General C Gururaj Rao who described the book as “topical and insightful” adding, “this book is for students, top managers, academics, consultants and for anyone who wants to grow rich.”

Other speakers included: Praveen Gupta, a tax director with BDO, who gave an overview of his firm; Rajangam Jayaprakash, better known as JP, also from BDO who gave his views on foreign direct investments from India and China as emerging powerhouses, Dr Sumon Bhaumik from Aston Business School who delivered a presentation on the internationalisation of family firms in India; and Xiaming Liu, professor in International Business at Birkbeck College, University of London.
