Leadership: High-Value Services for Manufacturers

On Thursday 12 May, participants from across the UK attended a one day conference which delivered insights into companies that lead through their product-centric services.

The event was hosted by Professor Tim Baines a specialist in the realisation of competitive operations who also presented on the day. In his presentation, Tim focused on the state-of-the-art in advanced services. In addition, he summarised key concepts and reported on the practices and technologies leading to success.

Other speakers on the day included:

Des Evans, Chief Executive Officer of MAN Truck and Bus UK, a leading provider of commercial vehicles and transport solutions. Mr Evans’ presentation, A Services Vision, focused on MAN Truck and Bus UK’s recent innovations, the implications to their business in delivering these, and how they will sustain their success into the future.

Andrew Jones, Director and General Manager at Xerox Global Services Europe, who shared his firm's success story in transforming from a conventional manufacturer to a services business. Andrew also provided an insight into the firm's business model.

John Greiner formally of Caterpillar USA gave an overview of service enabling technologies and the information that is now readily available to manufacturers.  

Tim Bentley, Managing Director of Alstom West Coast Mainline who outlined how train-life services have undergone an incredible transformation over the past decade. Tim described the company's journey, challenges they faced and how they were overcome.
