Business Schools across the UK pledge to ‘make a difference’ following event

Attendees to the recent Responsible Management Education event at Aston Business School have pledged to make a difference within their own Business Schools to ensure more of a responsible and ethical approach to their activities in light of the UN Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRiME).

The highly successful First Global Forum on Responsible Management Education was held at the UN Headquarters in New York in the presence of UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon. Aston Business School was one of a small number of UK schools to take part. As a result of the talks, PRiME was established to ensure responsible management education is at the heart of the curriculum for current and future business leaders.

The day was a great success, offering lively debate and, for those who took part, a way of looking towards the future of responsible business education. Speakers from a range of Universities took part, including: Carole Parkes from Aston Business School, Alan Murray from Sheffield University, Jonathan Slack of the Association of Business Schools and Jeanette Purcell Chief Executive of the Association of MBAs.

Carole Parkes Senior Lecturer at Aston Business School was at the original UN Forum. She said: 'There is a real opportunity for schools to adapt and transform their curricula as society demands business exhibit a more responsible and ethical approach to its activities particularly in light of the current economic circumstances.'

The event was supported by The British Academy of Management, The Association of Business Schools and The Higher Education Academy. The relevance and importance of the PRiME initiative is being recognised and endorsed by accreditation bodies including the AACSB and EFMD as an important indication of a Schools’ commitment to embedding ethics and responsibility across programmes.
