Social Responsibility and Sustainability

Aston Business School is committed to implementing a strategy for Social Responsibility and Sustainability (SRS) and was one of the first UK Business Schools to sign up to the UN’s “Principles of Responsible Management”.

In implementing these principles, ABS is committed to developing SRS literate graduates, engaging in SRS research, engaging with businesses and communities and understands “that our own organisational practices should serve as examples of the values and attitudes we convey to our students”.

Carole Parkes, Co-Director of  the Social Responsibility & Sustainability Group, explains why Corporate Social Responsibility is such an important area for businesses and students.

The Social Responsibility & Sustainability Group includes academics from across ABS, and its purpose is to undertake and promote research and teaching in the broadly defined areas of social responsibility and sustainability.

Related teaching and research interests of the group’s members include: business ethics, corporate governance, environmental performance and management systems, green supply chain management, human rights, policy studies, and social and environmental accounting. 

Over the last year the group has specifically focussed upon the initiative to launch a new MSc in Social Responsibility and Sustainability in the academic year 2011/12. The members of the SRS group have helped shape the content of this MSc and will be responsible for delivering much of the content.
