On Thursday 15 July 2010, Aston Business School inducted 41 students to the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honour society.

Doctoral and undergraduate students received BGS membership whilst their family and friends watched the ceremony presented by Dr Gary Simpson, Ms Elaine Clarke, Professor Helen Higson, Dr Jane Lê and Ms Katy Barry.

Undergraduate student prize-giving also took place at this ceremony. Students were awarded prizes from companies such as Accenture, BT, Enterprise Rent-a-Car as well as from Aston Business School.

The evening was a great success and it was a great pleasure for Aston Business School to acknowledge the achievements of its graduates.

30 March 2010

On Tuesday 30 March 2010, Aston Business School inducted 95 students to the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honour society.

It was fantastic to see the many Doctoral, MBA and MSc students, and their family and friends who attended the ceremony held in the Sumpner Lecture Theatre. The ceremony was presented by Professor John Saunders, Mr Tom Connelly, Professor David Bennett and Dr Gary Simpson. 

It was also a great pleasure for the Business School to present Honorary BGS membership to Malcolm Dunn. Malcolm has a distinguished career in the HR field and long established links with the MSc HRMB (Human Resource Management & Business) programme therefore it was a good opportunity for Aston Business School to show our appreciation for all the hard work he does.

There was also postgraduate student prize giving at the ceremony. Many students were awarded prizes from companies such as Lloyds TSB, Accenture and the CIPD. It was pleasing to welcome Paul Willoughby from Flybe to present their student prize personally.

On Wednesday 24 February 2010, Aston Business School held a Beta Gamma Sigma honour society event, in the MBA Lounge in the ABS Building.

The purpose of Founders’ Day is to celebrate Beta Gamma Sigma, and for each chapter to participate in helping to raise awareness of Beta Gamma Sigma on campus, to business students, and throughout the community. In attendance at the event were: BGS undergraduate student members, BGS staff members, BGS alumni and MBA students. There were also representatives from the following companies: Deloitte & Touche, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Flybe and Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

Dr Jane Lê, Chapter Secretary of the ABS Beta Gamma Sigma chapter, gave a speech welcoming guests and providing information about Beta Gamma Sigma. She then introduced Andy Cross, Business Support Director of Virgin Trains, who also gave an inspiring talk about his career and the values of Beta Gamma Sigma.

The evening was a great success and all guests enjoyed the networking opportunity. It was also wonderful to celebrate the 5^th anniversary of having established our Beta Gamma Sigma chapter here at ABS.

The Beta Gamma Sigma Student Leadership Forum brings together student members from colleges and universities across the world for a chance to improve their leadership skills.

A hands-on experience, the Student Leadership Forum challenges the chosen participants to examine questions such as, “What Kind of Leader Will I Be?” Team-building exercises, social activities, networking and other activities make the Student Leadership Forum a very positive step forward in the professional lives of those taking part.

Hannah Thackrah, who was inducted into BGS in November 2009, was chosen to attend the Student Leadership Forum held 4-7 February 2010 in Florida, USA. Speaking about her experience, she said:

‘The BGS Leadership Forum was one of the best experiences of my life and one that I will never forget. It was brilliant to meet so many interesting people and connect on both a professional and personal level and realise that we all shared the same concerns about what the future brings. The speakers, group sessions and activities really allowed me to examine the kind of person I am, what skills, strengths and weaknesses I have and the kind of business leader I want to be. It was an inspirational experience that I felt privileged to be part of and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to attend.’

On Wednesday 25 November, Aston Business School inducted 47 new undergraduate students and staff members to the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honour society.

The ceremony was a great success and it was a great pleasure for the Business School to also present an Honorary BGS award to Andy Cross, Business Support Director, of Virgin Trains. Hannah Thackrah was selected to attend the BGS Student Leadership Forum in Tampa, Florida; whilst Gillian Burt was presented the BGS Student Scholarship in recognition of her achievement and commitment to her studies.

There was also undergraduate prize-giving at this year’s event. Many students received prizes for their outstanding hard work over the last year(s). These prizes were presented by representatives of numerous blue-chip companies, including BT, Accenture, Deloitte and Unilever.
