14 & 15 July 2011

On Thursday 14 & Friday 15 July 2011 Aston Business School (ABS) inducted 66 undergraduate students, and 6 doctoral students to the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honour society.

Students were awarded membership to Beta Gamma Sigma in recognition of their academic achievements. 68 students collected their Beta Gamma Sigma certificates and badges on their graduation day. All students were given the opportunity to have their photographs taken with their awards and also given the chance to showcase their academic achievements and experiences while at Aston on video.

On Tuesday 12 April 2011, Aston Business School (ABS) inducted 122 MBA and MSc students, and 7 Doctoral students to the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honour society.

Students were awarded membership to Beta Gamma Sigma in recognition of their academic achievements. 89 students collected their Beta Gamma Sigma certificates and badges on graduation day, and were given the opportunity to be photographed and showcase their experiences and achievements at Aston, on video.

Aston Business School was delighted to induct such a large number of postgraduate students to the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma honour society.

On Wednesday 16 February Aston Business School held a Beta Gamma Sigma honour society event, in the Sumpner Lecture Theatre at Aston University. The ceremony was presented by senior staff at Aston Business School: Professor John Edwards, Ms Elaine Clarke, Dr Gary Simpson and Dr David Saal.

'Be ambitious, think positive and don’t be afraid of challenges'. This was the message to students from Chris Banks CBE, one of Aston Business School’s most successful MBA Alumni. Mr Banks was keynote speaker at the Beta Gamma Sigma awards ceremony, which each year celebrates the academic achievements of staff and students. Chris Banks was awarded the Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Honoree Award for his continued engagement with the School.

Beta Gamma Sigma award winners were acknowledged during the ceremony. Two members of academic staff at ABS were honoured BGS membership: Professor Nigel Driffield, Head of The Economics and Strategy Group, and Dr Neeru Malhotra, Senior Lecturer from the Marketing Group. Two undergraduate final year business students were awarded special BGS awards: Sihui Zeng, the Student Leadership Forum Award, and Pawel Seweryn, the Student Scholarship Award.

20 undergraduate students received prizes for their academic achievements. Many of these were sponsored by companies, all leaders in their respective professional sectors. These included: British Telecom, Ernst and Young, Deloitte, British Gas, Flybe and TUI Travel PLC.

The evening was a great success and all guests enjoyed the networking opportunity with ABS staff, students, company representatives and Chris Banks. It was wonderful to celebrate the 6^th year anniversary of having established our Beta Gamma Sigma collegiate chapter here at ABS.

3 – 6 February 2011

From 3 – 6 February 2011, student representatives selected from the world’s top business schools attended the Beta Gamma Sigma Student Leadership Forum in Florida, USA. The Forum is a biannual leadership event hosted by Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

The Beta Gamma Sigma Student Leadership Forum brings together student members from colleges and universities from across the world for an opportunity to improve their leadership skills. A hands-on experience, the Student Leadership Forum challenges and engages the selected participants to join in a variety of both interactive individual and team activities designed to strengthen and develop their personal leadership styles, working with other student leaders and attending a variety of lectures and presentations.

Sihui Zeng, a final year undergraduate business student at the Business School was inducted into Beta Gama Sigma on Founders’ Day on Wednesday 16 February 2011. Due to her high academic achievements, Sihui was selected to attend the recent Student Leadership Forum. Speaking about her experience, she said:

 “I really appreciated the opportunity to attend the Beta Gamma Sigma Student Leadership Forum as it was one of the most unforgettable experiences in my life. Participating in a variety of interesting group activities enabled me to appreciate the spirit of teamwork and cooperation. The sessions helped me to learn more about my personality and leadership style; and more importantly about what ‘tools’ I will need to add to my ‘leadership tool-box’ in order to become a better leader in the future. The most inspirational part of the experience was to meet and bond with so many fellow students from different cultures and backgrounds, and yet sharing the same uncertainties, dreams, core values and goals. I firmly believe that the reflections and the friendship gained from the forum will be valuable assets in my life.”
