The brand new MBA for senior executives, to be launched at Aston Business School has responded to a national report calling for the qualification to deliver a transformed style of leader to meet the demands of a changing business world.
The Executive MBA (EMBA), for managers with five years of senior experience, has been developed following research by the Association of MBAs* in 2009 which found that, in today’s post downturn era, the qualifications need to focus more on managing in uncertain times, innovative and effective people management, risk management, sustainability and business ethics and less on profit, shareholders and high risk strategies.
The programme, delivered by Aston Business School (part of Aston University), will focus on developing an executive’s performance by improving their people management skills and placing an emphasis on business coaching. Business coaching is the practice of maximising the potential of staff by providing positive support and feedback whilst offering advice on ways they can improve their effectiveness. The approach has a number of positive effects on business, including the improvement of leadership, employee accountability, teamwork, sales, communication and strategic planning.
Aston’s Executive MBA will also encompass a CONNECT module – the first of its kind in the UK – which allows candidates to map out future career progression and identify personal skills (negotiation and communication skills, time management, problem solving etc) that need to be developed.
These components sit alongside subjects such as ethics and sustainability, crisis management and media awareness, developing an energised work culture and change management to create a programme which will develop global leaders with the skills to inspire their workforce, remain agile in uncertain times and create successful business solutions.
Dr Brigitte Nicoulaud, Director of MBA programmes at Aston Business School, said:
“This high-level MBA has been specifically developed to create a new type of leader – one who is exceptionally innovative and responsive to changing times, possesses a range of transformational skills, leads highly motivated, performance-driven teams and has the personal attributes required for continuous career progression.”
“The business world is changing – so our leaders need to change accordingly. Studying the Executive MBA at Aston Business School, one of the world’s leading business schools, is guaranteed to equip managers with the skills they need to succeed in a competitive and increasingly demanding commercial world.”
