A new spin on language courses
THE School of Languages & European Studies at Aston University has launched a unique new degree programme in German with Journalism. It will be taught from the 2003/2004 academic session.
The course is aimed at students who wish to combine their German language skills with a journalism focus, allowing them to seek employment in the fields of journalism, public relations and communication. The programme is designed to generate a high level of transferable skills in the area of journalistic writing (in both English and German), communication theory and media analysis.*
The new programme is based on Aston's well-established degree in German, which will form two thirds of the syllabus. Additional courses will focus on the practical skills of media-related writing in German, as well as on the historical, legal and theoretical issues/aspects of German-language journalism.
The course is led by academics with expertise in journalism and has excellent contact with German-language newspapers, radio and TV stations. There will be input from visiting German journalists and a media-related work or study placement during the course's integrated year abroad. The course will also include an introduction to German-language media and the history of journalism in German and Austria.
