Aston University is supporting Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011 (14-20 November) a national conversation about entrepreneurship which will help to connect people, share ideas and explore regional issues to drive the next generation of business owners.

Aston University has a long history of supporting entrepreneurs.  Through our renowned placement programme and close links with business we endeavour to develop the entrepreneurial mind set of our students and graduates. 

Entrepreneurship and small business research is also a key strength within Aston Business School.  Under the leadership of Professor Mark Hart, Aston Business School manages the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) for the UK, the largest and most comprehensive research study, globally, of entrepreneurial attitudes, activities and aspirations.

Getting involved in Global Entrepreneurship Week

Our research shows that getting involved in Global Entrepreneurship Week will help you to develop your own business ideas.  In a video interview Professor Mark Hart will highlight the impact of Global Entrepreneurship Week. Entrepreneurship in the West Midlands

Entrepreneurship and new business start-ups are vital for economic growth, and yet there are real differences in the level of activity throughout the country.  From our research we will show how our region compares to others, and explore the difference we need to make here in the West Midlands.  In video interviews Professor Mark Hart and Debra Blisson MBA will explore the issues for entrepreneurs in the West Midlands.  

Youth Entrepreneurship

Aston students are incredibly entrepreneurial.  We aim to celebrate the work and achievements of our students through some inspirational video interviews and case studies. We will bring you interviews with students from BSEEN a graduate business start-up programme.  Sam Wilson, President of Aston Entrepreneurs will talk about the entrepreneurial activities for students at Aston.  ABS student Anisa Hahgdadi will talk about her experience as a social entrepreneur.

Enterprise Education

Degree programmes at Aston Business School aim to equip students with the skills they need to have successful careers and to start their own businesses.  We will explore the skills, training and support needed to be successful in business today in an interview with entrepreneurship expert and Aston PhD David Bozward.  Then on the evening join Aston students and alumni for:

Female Entrepreneurs

Our research shows a significant gender difference when it comes to entrepreneurial activity.  We will explore these differences and deliver a web chat with some inspirational female entrepreneurs, including Kay Hammond, CEO of multi-award-winning digital agency TAMBA and named Technology Woman of the Year at the Network of Aspiring Women awards and Catherine Allen, Managing Director of Ember Televsion.
