EcoCampus

In 2008, Aston University signed up to take part in EcoCampus, an environmental management system specifically designed for Universities, and equivalent to international standard ISO14001.

EcoCampus provides a framework to embed best practice in carbon and environmental management, and is widely recognised as a source of support and guidance for Higher Education Institutions in target setting and in the delivery of carbon management strategies and plans.

The system is based on 4 tiers - bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Aston received our Platinum Award in October 2012 after an on-site audit.

The Platinum stage of the process is focussed on Checking and Correcting, in order to ensure that processes that were implemented earlier on in the scheme are still operating correctly. In line with this, a number of staff members from various departments underwent Environmental Auditor Training, and conducted internal audits around the university. This willl be a continuous process so if you are interested in joining the team of auditors, please get in touch with the Environment Team.

The Environment Team and the Sustainable Aston Working Group, amongst others, are responsible for working on and reviewing the progress of EcoCampus.
