EcoCampus

In 2010, Aston University signed up to take part in EcoCampus, an environmental management system specifically designed for Universities, and equivalent to international standard ISO14001.

EcoCampus provides a framework to embed best practice in carbon and environmental management, and is widely recognised as a source of support and guidance for Higher Education Institutions in target setting and in the delivery of carbon management strategies and plans.

The system is based on 4 tiers - bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Aston received our Gold award in July 2011, following an on-site audit. We are now working towards the Platinum award, which we hope to achieve by mid-2012.

The Platinum stage of the process is focussed on Checking and Correcting, in order to ensure that processes that were implemented earlier on in the scheme are still operating correctly. In line with this, a number of staff members from various departments recently underwent Environmental Auditor Training, and will now be responsible for environmental audits of all departments. EcoCampus Gold

The Environment Team, the Sustainable Aston Working Group and the Sustainable Procurement Group, amongst others, are responsible for working on and reviewing the progress of EcoCampus.
