Catering

Aston's Catering department has been heavily involved in a number of our sustainability projects:

- The Aston University Mug for Life was launched in May 2009. The mugs are for sale in all of our on-campus catering outlets and can be used when buying any hot drink, to reduce the need for paper cups which cannot be recycled

Mugs are priced at £3.85 each and come in a variety of colours. Better still, each time you use your mug for life you will save 15p!

- Once a month, within Cafe Tierra and Dolce Vita, Catering run a Meat-Free-Friday, where the hot food counter offers a wide range of delicious vegetarian and vegan food. Meat production has a large carbon footprint, so reducing meat intake is an easy and effective way to reduce environmental impact.

- Our Catering department fully support Aston’s commitment to Fairtrade products and provide Fairtrade options in all catering outlets as well as through their hospitality service. For more details see the information available on our Fairtrade pages.

- Since the beginning of 2012, catering have ensured that all of their eggs are free-range.

- Catering were heavily involved in sourcing our on-site in-vessel composter which is used to compost our back-of-house catering waste, along with our garden waste. The compost is then used by the gardeners on campus.
