Aston Student Village: The Construction Process

The first phase of building is taking place on the south-east side of campus off Jennens Road, on an existing car park and sports pitch. These blocks will provide 1350 ensuite rooms and will start to become available for occupation in 2010. Because the new accommodation will be built before we demolish the current towers, there will never be a reduction in the number of rooms available.

The second phase of work will follow on immediately. This involves the removal of the existing accommodation towers in the centre of campus, and the construction of two new blocks to the north-west of campus, opposite the iconic fire station and continuing the curve round onto James Watt Queensway, started by the existing Lakeside Residences.

Once the construction work has been completed, we will be extensively landscaping the campus to ensure that it remains a pleasant place to live, work and study. As a result of this activity, there will be more green space on campus than before the project started, enhancing Aston’s reputation as a green oasis in the centre of a busy city.

Every step is being taken to minimise the disruption to current students and staff and noise levels are being monitored throughout the project.

As part of the project, there will also be a new artificial sports pitch, car park and shops along with new student common rooms and other facilities.
