In January 2008, work began on a new £215 million scheme to transform the standard of student accommodation at Aston University. The Aston Student Village project will provide 2400 brand new rooms, built to the highest standard, all with en suite bathrooms.
We recognise how important accommodation and facilities are to our students and we have taken this step to provide them with high-quality, well-maintained rooms which meet their requirements, whilst also giving them the opportunity to live on campus, which for many years has been a key feature of Aston's reputation for friendliness.
The project increases the number of rooms on campus, which enables us to continue to offer guaranteed accommodation to all first years who apply before the stated deadline, and to international students in each year of their degree. It also increases the number of rooms available to students in other years, especially final year.
The first residences opened in 2010, and Phase 2 will be complete by 2013. Further landscaping will then take place in 2013-14. This means that students joining the University in 2011-12 will be able to benefit from the new residences in their final year (or even earlier for some international students). The project also includes other benefits such as a new campus sports pitch, new student common rooms, student support services and the Martin Luther King Chaplaincy Centre.
